Custom jewelry can be as personal as one would like. Personalizing a piece can be as simple as having names or dates inscribed onto a piece or it can be as extravagant as choosing a piece from mere materials. There are craftsmen that you can find over the Internet that can create or recreate a specific piece by simply having a picture or drawing. Custom jewelry can be created for special occasion and it is becoming more and more prevalent. Many people feel that a wedding ring should be as unique as the individual wearing it.

Custom jewelry can be made from a variety of different materials. Because it is a piece specific to ones preference it can be made from anything that one wishes, ranging from plastic, sterling silver, gold or platinum as well as a variety of gem stones. It is important to do some research before hand to see if the craftsman’s specialty is in the material that is wanted to be used in the piece. For example, if the desired piece of jewelry is a necklace made from a combination of copper and diamonds, one may want to research a craftsman skilled in molding copper and not plastic. Research is a simple step to ensure that the piece is crafted to ones liking.

Because custom jewelry requires more work to personalize and create, the cost can drastically increase. People can choose to charge on a per piece basis including the materials or by the hour. It is something that may be a concern or should at least be taken into consideration when choosing to buy either a personalized piece or a factory produced item. Again it boils down to the amount of money that is available to spend.
