Handcrafted Jewelry
Handcrafted jewelry is an element of personal adornment.
It is an art performed by a jewelry artisan. This technique has been
around for thousands of years, for example turquoise was worn in ancient
years to protect against evil. However, in the world today decorative
ornaments such as turquoise and silver are used as fashion statements
rather than protection. Today such pieces tend to become tools to meet
friends by becoming conversational pieces.
Handcrafted jewelry in comparison to machine produced ornaments is
very different. When a piece is made by hand it is subject to unique
perfection. There may be slight color variation or variation in piece
sizes, but that is the beauty of it. Each piece is a complete individual
and cannot be duplicated by any artisan or machine, not even the original
creator; exclusivity at its finest. Glass beads are used in many handcrafted items. Being individual themselves, make the peice of jewelry that more personalized.
Handcrafted jewelry can come in a variety of different styles. There
are artisans skilled in areas such as beadwork, fine gemstones, and
precious metals. Because so much time has to be devoted to an individual
ornament the price may become significantly higher. Just like an original
Picasso would be more expensive than a reproduction or even a print
the same rule applies to custom work in the jewelry industry.
