Sterling Jewelry
Sterling jewelry is a great inexpensive option to wear
silver when white gold may be out of price range. Silver itself is very
soft, but when combined with other metals such as copper a durable material
is produced known as sterling silver. This type of metal has long been
used in items such as silverware or pitchers, but is also used in the
production of jewelry.
Sterling jewelry, although beautiful, can scratch and tarnish and so
there are certain ways to care for it. One way to prevent silver from
scratching is to store in a cloth pouch, or separate jewelry container.
Tarnish can be prevented by cleaning silver regularly, not only will
it prevent buildup but it will ensure the shine of the piece. It is
also important to note that such activities such as swimming in a chemically
treated pool or cleaning with harsh chemicals can damage silver as well.
Sterling jewelry is available from head to toe. Not only is silver
used to make rings for hands, but it is also used to make earrings,
nose and tongue rings, necklaces, belly, and toe rings as well. Although
it may be slightly more in terms of cost, many people find that sterling
is an option if they have sensitive skin, especially for piercings because
it doesn’t’ irritate as much as a fake coated jewelry does.
